Trip Brief | With 30“ of new snow in 24 hours, a group of Stio staff and athletes skinned 7 miles into the Tetons of Idaho‘s backcountry to test new product, take photos and ski the deepest, lightest champagne pow of the season under bluebird skies. They slept easy at Baldy Knoll Yurt and woke up giddy, eager to do it all over again.

Getting there

Located at 8,800”, this is the highest and most remote hut in the Teton Backcountry Guide Network. Access requires a 2,200” climb over 7 miles to the east-west ridge between Fox and Game Creek Canyons.

Home for the Next two Days

Surrounded by unlimited, untouched ski terrain and stocked with fresh food, firewood and cold bevies, Baldy Knoll Yurt served as our home for the next two days.

Skiing

Pick your pow: tree skiing, open bowls, chutes, cliffs, and couloirs are all accessible with easy ridgeline tours just outside the door.

The conditions could not have been better: serious snow, great company and spectacular scenery. With sore feet, tired legs, cold hands we retreated to the warm glow of the hut and views for miles.
