Exploring what is quickly becoming the largest nature reserve in the continental US with our partners at American Prairie Reserve

When your partners at American Prairie Reserve invite you to hike, bike and paddle deep into the wilds of Montana you say "yes," grab 3 of your coworkers, drive 9 hours north from Jackson to enter the Reserve and move in awe across a vast sea of land that the Reserve is working hard to restore and preserve.

Day 1: Drive in and sleep at the Craighead Hut in cottonwood grove

Day 2: Canoe 4 miles down the Judith River and hike to the Founders Hut

Day 3: Hike 8 miles along the Missouri River

Day 4: Bike 10 miles on old cattle trails and depart for Slippery Ann Elk Vista

Nearly 400,000 acres of preserved land (for comparison Grand Teton National Park is 310,000 acres)
10 huts will connect 200+ miles of trail for public access (2 currently complete)
Home to 800+ bison (up from 16 in 2005)
1,500 species of plants, 350 species of birds, 220 species of butterflies and 90 different mammals

American Prairie Reserve's mission is to create the largest nature reserve in the continental United States, a refuge for people and wildlife preserved forever as part of America's heritage, by restoring a complete and fully functioning prairie ecosystem.

public access

Not only will American Prairie Reserve protect a multitude of plants and wildlife, it will also include campgrounds and a new hut system that will allows for affordable human access to the Reserve for all to enjoy and explore. Hiking, biking, camping, paddling, hunting and fishing are all possible. Reservations open this spring at AmericanPrairie.org/huts.
